It is with great sadness that we announce that Jennie Veronica Horne passed away in Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 88 years of age.
Jennie was born in Sydney on May 6, 1930 to the late Stanley and Victoria (Gawanda) Kowalczyk. She grew up in a large household with 11 siblings and following her parents passing, she assumed the role of matriarch of the family. She made a point of staying in touch and was the one that everyone went to for information.
Jennie will be deeply missed by family, her husband, Levi; children, Linda O’Leary, Leonard, Brian (wife Susan); grandchildren, Victoria (David), Valerie (Shawn), Barbara (Tom), Brian, and Sheri (Ryan); nine great-grandchildren; sister, Cil MacInnis (husband Hughie); brother, JJ MacLean; as well sister-in-law, Joan Kowalczyk and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her grandson, Lennie; sisters, Mary Ross, Florence Heb, Sophie Wambolt, Rose Marchaund, Stella Cameron, Isobel Vassalo, Vickie O’Hagan, and brothers, Joseph and John Kowalczyk.
Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Sunday, February 24, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay on Monday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Everett MacDow celebrant. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
