Vincent 'Vindy' MacDonald

Date de naissance : 31 décembre 1930

Date de décès : 22 février 2019

It is with deep sadness that we, his family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of our father, Vindy MacDonald, aged 88, of Ellsworth Ave., New Waterford on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Born December 31, 1930 in Sydney, Dad was the son of the late Angus B and Margaret "Maggie" (MacNeil) MacDonald and lived on lower Convent St. "at the square" before moving further up 12 near Kaneville Road after the death of his father in 1938.
Dad is the last surviving member of his immediate family. While working in St. Alphonse graveyard in Low Point he met his wife Ada who lived nearby at the time. They married on July 1, 1952 and then moved to New Waterford to raise their family. Prior to her death in August of 2017, Mom and Dad celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.
After Mom's death, Dad lived in the family home with his daughter Debbie until recently when he moved to R.C MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney where he greatly enjoyed the entertainment and singing in the Men's Club and the fabulous staff that made his stay so enjoyable.
In his younger years Dad drove taxi before going into the mines, where he spent 39 years working in #12 and Lingan in New Waterford, #26 in Glace Bay and Princess in Sydney Mines for a short time. Dad loved to hunt and fish out in Gabarus and at the old MacDonald family farm in French Road with his boys. He was one of the last surviving members of the original St. Agnes Men's Club that built the road around Sangaree Island and the family has many fond memories of staying in the hotel and many picnics out there over the years. Dad also loved going to the NW Jets and NW Cavalier's games at the rink with his friends. Mom and Dad attended the monthly dances at Mt. Carmel Gym for many years with their large circle of friends. After Dad's retirement in 1989, Dad spent many hours out in the garage listening to Cape Breton fiddle music while fixing one thing or another and he and Mom traveled numerous times out west to see the boys and their families and trips to Florida to see Dad's sister.
Vindy is survived by his daughter, Debbie (the late Jimmy) Sutherland and son, Bradley (Laura) of New Waterford; son, Ronnie (Sandi) of New Victoria and sons, Vincent (Lynn) and Mark (Joelane) of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta; sisters-in-law, Mary MacDonald in Mississauga and Dolly Quinn and brother-in-law, Martin MacKinnon from South Bar; also grandchildren, Chris, Sherri-Lynn, David, Holly, Chantelle, Kayla, Justin, Jillian, Jonathan, James, Ryan, Madison and Cassidy and great-grandchildren, Liam, Logan, Blair, Mason, Natalie, Kayden, Korbyn, Vincent, Ally and Rhyan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Vindy was also predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ada (Mortimer); brothers, Joe, Donnie, John Michael, Gussie, Roddie; sisters, Madeline Cooke, Margaret "Dudy" Purcell and Teresa Dwyer; sisters-in-law, Florence and Irene MacDonald, Viola Little, Gloria MacKinnon, Ilyah Cormier and Norma Maxner Sager; brothers-in-law, Bob Purcell, John Dwyer, Lorne Cooke, Leo Quinn, Wilfred Cormier, Fred Maxner and Jack Sager and son-in-law, Jimmy Sutherland.
