Peppard, David Raymond 62, Truro. On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, our beloved brother, David (Dave) Raymond Peppard, passed away at the age of 62 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Dave was the son of the late Raymond and Shirley (Chisholm) Peppard. Dave was born with Down Syndrome on March 27, 1956 in Truro, in an era that believed people with Down Syndrome should be institutionalized. Dave attended the first school classes in Truro at the former Princess Margaret Rose Elementary School on Willow Street for children with learning disabilities. He then went on to attend classes in Bible Hill at the former Nova Scotia Youth Training Centre. Through his education at the Youth Training Centre, Dave developed many skills that he used to his great advantage throughout his life. Dave did everything he could within his abilities to live a full, independent life. During his youth, he participated in the Special Olympics for a number of years, traveling throughout the Province. He traveled to Michigan in the early 1970’s to attend the International Special Olympics competitions. Dave was a very competitive person. He loved to play floor hockey, bowl, play horseshoes and washer toss. Dave loved to win but would always kindly console the non-winner. After graduating from the Youth Training Centre, he was employed at the Butler Centre, and then the Colchester Community Workshop in Truro for over 30 years. In 2006, Dave became an employee of Anchor Industries in Lower Sackville where he worked for over ten years. He spent most of his life in Truro. While attending the workshop in Lower Sackville, Dave lived at the Oxford Street Group Home in downtown Halifax for six years and loved every day that he was a resident. Dave touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with through work, the community, social events, and family gatherings. He was friendly, outgoing, had a great sense of humor with a knack for bestowing nicknames on people. Dave was a joy to be around. He loved all of his family and everyone that returned the love that he projected. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Florence Chisholm; paternal grandparents, Herbert and Ida Peppard; several aunts and uncles and two cousins that he adored, Loran Morrison and Gary Peppard. Dave is survived by his sister, Raylee, Truro; brothers, Paul (Kathy), Shortts Lake and Michael (Sandy), Arkell, O.N.; niece, Casondra; nephews, Patrick (Annalee), Matthew (Nicole) and Zakaria; great nieces, London and Emily, and great nephew, Caleb. Also survived by his aunts, Louise and Betty and uncles, Herb, Al (Kaye), Bill (Betty), and as Dave would say, “all kinds of cousins.” Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro where a celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 2 – 4p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester Community Workshop, Truro, Building Futures (Anchor), Lower Sackville, Special Olympics Nova Scotia, or charity of choice.
