Eva Myra Hutchings

Date de naissance : 3 février 1926

Date de décès : 28 février 2019

Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at Agnes Pratt Home, Eva Hutchings, aged 94 years. She was the last surviving child born to parents Lawrence and Jane Hoskins, Kelligrews. Predeceased by her loving husband Bill; son Gary; siblings Reg (Hetty), Melvin (Helen) and Eileen Pretty; and dear friend Mildred Bonnell. Leaving to mourn with broken hearts: son Wayne (Judi); devoted granddaughters Jennifer (David) and Ashley (Ryan), Halifax; Nanny’s little treasure great-granddaughter Natalie and new great-grandson Oliver, whom she waited to meet; Gary’s family: much loved grandchildren Dana and Colin (Calgary); loving daughter-in-law Dana and her family; loyal caregivers and friends Diane and Paul Pearce and their daughters; treasured friend Ferne Tilley; also, many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, who had come to love her over the years. Eva was a proud WWII Veteran and followed in the footsteps of her adored dad, Lawrence, who was a “Blue Puttee”. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 33 years, for which she received an award. She was also a member of the Ladies Royal Purple (Elks Club) for 45 years and a dedicated parishioner of St. Thomas’ Anglican Church. When Eva was unable to attend services in her later years, Rev. Bob Rowlands, who she also considered a friend, would visit her at her home for communion. This gave her great comfort for which we are eternally grateful. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful, kind and caring staff at Agnes Pratt Home, Stella Burry Place, where she resided for the past eight months. Special thanks to Dr. Cliona McManamon and N.P Sarah Coady for your dedication to our Precious Mom and Nanny. You went above the call in always making yourselves available and leaving no stone unturned regarding Mom. The world seems a little less kind and safe now that “Nan” has left us. Eva was the last of a dying breed. She truly embodied “The Greatest Generation”. She was a loyal, trustworthy, confidante and friend to all of us. A hardworking, humble, intelligent, well read, strong, demonstrative, animal lover and Christian women who loved life and everyone in it. The family will accept visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, Friday, March 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate her life will take place on Saturday, March 9 at 12 Noon. Donations in Eva’s memory may be made to The Eastern NL Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis or the SPCA. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.carnells.com.

She Paid her debt to her Country as did her Father before her. In the fight for right she has won, and the King of Kings has spoken in honour… “Come home thou faithful one…your work was loyally done.”
