Edward Borix
1924 – 2019
On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at the age of 94 years, our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and stories. Edward was born on Saturday, August 2, 1924, to Nicholis and Annie (Reban) Borix, in Blaine Lake, SK. He had one sibling, a brother, William “Bill” Borix. As a young man Ed enrolled in the navy and went to sea and sailed from Halifax to Liverpool on an escort ship named HMCS Leaside, where he served as a gunner. Throughout his life, he remained proud of his military service. Once the war was over, he married the love of his life, Ruby Annabelle Weber, in 1946. At this time Ed and Ruby started a family, and his career as a ferryman began. First at the Petrofka ferry and eventually at the Birch Hills ferry, where he worked until his retirement. A big portion of Ed and Ruby’s life were their five children, Judy (Don), Edward Jr. (Cindy), Wayne (Tammy), Terry (Marie), and Ron (Faye), which grew to include seven grandchildren and eventually eighteen great-grandchildren, Shannon (Darryl) – Olivia & Jonathon, Carrie (Ryan) – Joelle, Dean & Alex, Jennifer (Chris) – Harper, Brooks, and Blake, Christopher (Samantha) – Petra, Kale & Carter, Ashley (Thomas) – Ava & Paisley, Danielle – Jazpen, Shanae & Cruz, Shawn – Sophie & Nicholas. During retirement, Ed and Ruby enjoyed many years attending polka fests where they met and made many life long friends, listening to country music, especially George Jones, golfing, camping, and fishing. Ed had a passion for hunting with his friends and family. They even had the experience of travelling to Alaska together twice, it was a country and scenery that they loved together. Family was important and meant the world to Edward, and he loved to reminisce about life and lived experiences. Edward kept a neat and immaculate yard, lawn and garden, where he took pride in eating fresh radishes, lettuce, and cucumbers, and when the season was done, he and Ruby would compete to see who made the best garlic dills. Ed had a life well lived. Edward was predeceased by his parents, Nicholis and Annie (Reban) Borix; his brother, William Borix; and his loving wife, Ruby, whom he was married to for sixty-nine years; his parents-in-law, John (Wilma) Weber; and his special son, Wayne. Edward will be lovingly remembered by those who live on without him, including his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. We wish to thank the wonderful staff at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, especially his nurse Wade, and Dr. Mueller who ensured that Ed and his family were treated with kindness and compassion in his final days. Edward’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at River Park Funeral Home, 301 River Street West, Deacon Dennis Serfas officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can made in Ed’s honour to the Prince Albert SPCA, 1125 N Industrial Drive, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T1, or the Prince Albert Royal Canadian Legion, 133 8 Street E, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 0V8. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, (306) 764-2727, Paula Hanson, Funeral Director.
