It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Hiliary “Mac” Edward MacDonald, 58, at his home in Ross Ferry N.S. on March 5, 2019.
Born in New Waterford N.S and raised in Ross Ferry N.S., he was the son of Edward MacDonald, Forchu N.S. and the late Beryl (Weaver) MacPhail.
Hiliary was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He first served as a Combat Engineer with the former Canadian Airborne Regiment and then later as a Refinishing Tech where he discovered his passion for woodworking, refinishing and building. He served in Petawawa, Shilo and Winnipeg before his release in 1993 when he retired to his home town and found a knack for the chainsaw and working in the woods. Later in life, Hiliary rediscovered his Christian faith, becoming an active and loved member of the Grace Fellowship Church.
Hiliary loved to laugh and was always working on a project, be it refinishing a wagon, piece of furniture, building a bridge to nowhere or helping a neighbour on the island. He loved to cook (and eat) and making preserves while listening to Guns N’ Roses.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Beatrice (Weaver) MacDonald and George Weaver and Aunt, Patricia (Weaver) Gardiner. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Katie (MacDonald) Peddle; son-in-law, Andrew Peddle; grandchildren, Connor and Abigail Peddle; sisters, Lynette (MacDonald) MacVicar and Laura (MacPhail) Williams, along with his nieces and nephews; cousin, Glen Gardiner and his extended Christian Family at the Grace Fellowship Church.
Visitation will take place Sunday, March 10th at 2 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m. both at Grace Fellowship Church.
