Frances Loretta Kennedy

Frances Loretta Kennedy

It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Frances Loretta Kennedy, announce her passing. It is also with gratitude that we thank and celebrate Mom for the wonderful life she led and the unconditional love and support that she always showed to her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Marilyn Currie, Martin Kennedy and William “Billy” Kennedy; her grandchildren, Kenneth (Mary) Currie, Melinda (Mark) Currie, Kyle (Lynn) Currie, Sara (Elliot) Mollison, Michael Kennedy, Leesa Kennedy, Karrah (John) Boutilier, Liam (Laura) Kennedy, and her great-grandchildren Mark, Courtney, Allen, Christopher and Alexa, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Kennedy; parents Hugh and Cristenia (McInnis) Fraser, siblings Mary, Catherine, Hugh, Michael, John, Gervase, Mabel and Josie and son-in-law, Greg Currie.
Mom was a lifelong resident of Glace Bay, growing up and raising her family in New Aberdeen. She will be greatly missed by numerous friends and neighbors who were overjoyed to celebrate her 100th birthday in 2015. Mom was happiest when she was looking out for the well-being of others, especially her family. She regularly reminded her children and grandchildren to live by her golden rule, “Whenever you can do something for somebody, do it”.
Mom’s pastimes included playing cards with friends and family, often until sunrise. She would declare “no good” when someone showed a hand inferior to her own. It was truly the only time that Mom relished beating others. As she often said, “cards are cards”. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, attending the weekly games at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, where patrons marked her centennial by surprising her with singing, cake and free bingo for life!
At Mom’s 90th birthday celebration, her grandson Kenneth said, “Sometimes God does put angels on earth.” Because of her unwavering faith, we know Mom is safely home.
The family wishes to thank the numerous care workers, first responders and nurses who made Mom’s final days comfortable, and her long-time family doctor, Dr. Cadegan. The family will be present for visitation Thursday, March 14 from 1 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. at the TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. A reception to follow. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
