It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita Marie O’Connell announce her peaceful passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in her 85th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons: Pius (Linda) of Hare Bay, Alphonsus Jr. (Debbie), Liguori (Kathy), Danny of Benoit’s Cove, Felix of Grand Cach Alberta; her daughters: Mary (David), Jude of St. John’s, Stella (John) of Virgin Arm, Amanda (Darren) of Stoneville, NL, Cindi (Rick) of Ontario, Kelly of Benoit’s Cove. Also leaving to mourn a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rita was predeceased by her husband Alphonsus O’Connell; her parents: William and Mary Benoit; her children: Neila White (nee Benoit), Gloria, Deborah (Keith); her grandchildren: Cornelia Kennedy and Joey O’Connell; her sisters: Della, Margaret, and Mary; her brothers: Benedict, Isaac, William, Pius, Frank, Nicholas, and Felix; her sons-in-law: Howard White, Peter Arding, and Duke Kennedy. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 7-9 pm and Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Benoit’s Cove on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 10:30 am with Father Jim Robertson officiating. Interment to take place at the Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted and/or memorial donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
