It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Theresa Gilliam, age 86 of Sydney. She passed away on March 16, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Cathelene Grady.
Shirley enjoyed travelling and loved spending most of her time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Randy (Michelle), David Osborne, Jamie (Cathy) Gilliam; daughters, Dale Neil, Greta Gauvin, Sherry Pink, and her sister, Joaney (Pete) Hope. She is also survived by her 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, the late James E. Gilliam; daughter, Pauline McIntyre; sisters, Audrey (Pete) Bailey, Beatrice (Melvin) Gilliam, Marion (Jim) Wesley; brothers, Bobby (Ruth) Grady, John Grady and Ronald Grady.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.
