Dawson, Joan Lorraine, age 85 of Lower Sackville, passed away on 12 March 2019 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre with family by her side. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of Jim and Mary (Storey) Megeney. Joan married William Roy Dawson in 1956. After the Springhill bump of 1958, Roy joined the Army and Joan experienced moves to locations such as Petawawa ON, Kingston ON, Winnipeg MB and Halifax. Through it all Joan’s heart always remained in Springhill. Joan worked as an X-ray Technician until motherhood changed her priorities. She was the consummate homemaker, raising four young children while expertly dealing with the challenges that inevitably arose when Roy was away on duty. Joan loved summering at the family cottage at Heather Beach where her green thumb was the envy of all. Her flowerbeds were spectacular, especially the poppies, while the vegetable garden always produced a bumper crop. Joan's grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them. In her quiet time, Joan enjoyed a good book, particularly a mystery. Roy, her husband of 61 years, predeceased her. Joan is survived by sons Jack, Amherst, Scott (Debbie), St. Albert AB, Jamie (Pam), Upper Sackville and daughter Jill Crowell (Ian), Mount Uniacke as well as grandchildren Megan, Dylan, Nicole, Michelle, and Dawson. Cremation has taken place. As per her request, there will be no funeral service and a private family burial will take place at a later date.
