Doreen Mildred Meagher

Doreen Mildred Meagher

Date de naissance : 6 janvier 1938

Date de décès : 27 mars 2019

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Doreen Mildred Meagher after a valiant struggle with severe COPD; she passed on the morning of Wednesday, March 27, 2019. In last stage of her struggle, Doreen was using Vital Aire Home oxygen since November of 2015.
Doreen was born in Toronto on January 6, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Nora (Crawford) LeGrow.
She is survived by her loving husband and friend, Darrell Meagher; her nephew, Mark Girouard and niece, Chantal Demers, as well as many other loved nieces and nephews. “She invited me to be part of her life and demanded nothing in return. She taught me some fundamentals of life, she introduced me to new experiences and new people.” K.C. Meagher Harrison (niece).
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Douglas LeGrow and her good friend, Doreen Catherine Meagher.
One of Doreen’s greatest pleasures was her cottage in Alburg, Vermont. She would love to sit by the lake with a glass of wine in one hand and a good novel in the other, all the while soaking in one of Alburg’s famous sunsets. Another pleasure of Doreen’s was bowling. She bowled for many years, wherever she lived; Montreal, Oakville and Sydney. While in Sydney, she was the organizer and statistician of the CNR Bowling league for 3 years.
Doreen enjoyed a number of trips. In particular was a camping trip across Canada. She also took a trip to Hawaii with Darrell. A highlight of the trip was the Hana Trail in Maui. The flowers and foliage along the trail was like the garden of Parades.
The family would like to thank the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) for their support and service since 2015. We would also like to thank the nurses at Cape Breton Regional Hospital ICU for the wonderful care and attention they gave to Doreen in her last days. We would like to give a special thank you to Alden and Frances Meagher, and Averil and Bill Head for their unfailing support through the difficult days.
As per Doreen’s wishes, there will not be any visitation or service. She will be cremated and a memorial service will be held later this summer.
Donations to the VON can be made in the memory of Doreen.
