Elizabeth "Betty" Jamieson

Elizabeth "Betty" Jamieson

Elizabeth “Betty” Jamieson passed away peacefully, less than two months from her 98th birthday, on March 30, 2019, at Ivany Place Nursing Home in Bedford, N.S.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jack in 2004 after 61 years of marriage and by her beloved youngest son, Ian in 2015. Her parents, Kathleen and Nobel Wilbur of Moncton predeceased her, as well as three brothers, Bill, Richard and Peter Wilbur.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan McDougall (Alistair predeceased); sons, Stuart (Minnie) and Paul (Donna); daughter-in-law, Frances, New Zealand; six grandchildren, Andrew (Tonda), Suzanne (Tyler Ford), Alistair (Kate), Jessica (David Bonang), Tracy (Keith Mullins) and Mark Jamieson; and seven great-grandchildren, Abbey, Luca, Lexa and Axl Jamieson, Daniel and Madison Bonang and Jake Schumacher. Betty is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marlie Wilbur, St. Andrews, NB, multiple nieces and nephews and her cousin, Jean Jones, Moncton.
Betty was devoted to her family, who in turn appreciated her ongoing support and generosity. She had many friends, young and old, and she will be remembered as a keen bridge player into her early 90's. In 1943, Betty graduated as a registered nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and then spent many years lovingly tending to her four children. When they all were university educated, she returned to nursing in the pediatrics department of the Sydney City Hospital. Many enjoyable summers were spent at the family cottage in Baddeck, which was not only overrun with friends and family, but with the Boston Terrier dogs that she and Jack raised. Betty was an active member of the United Church in Sydney and latterly, at Bedford United.
The family would like to thank the Sandpiper staff at Ivany Place who looked after Betty with such care and compassion these past few years, especially thoughtful friends, Dorothy Elton, Wolfville, Audrey Billing, Moncton and Sylvia Branton, Bedford.
There will be a family memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty's memory can be made to your favorite charity. Or if you wish, perform an act of kindness, as Betty often did throughout her life.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
