Bernice (Kiec') Ratushny

Bernice Ratushny passed away on March 30, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
She was born on September 24, 1927, in Whitney Pier, the daughter of the late Anna (Niedzielska) and Michael Kieć.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edmund (2001), her sisters, Jennie (Tony) Melski, Mary (Peter) Baryluk, Cecilia (in infancy), Valerie (Eugene) Deturbide; her brothers, Ted (Hilda), Alex, Stanley (in infancy).
Left to mourn are her children, Kenneth (Cheryl), Michael, Marianne Gillis, Robert (Karen); 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Louise (late Ted) Baker.
Bernice had a special relationship with her grandson, Michael Gillis. He was the unique light in her life after she lost her husband Edmund.
Bernice was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Polish Church, Whitney Pier.
There will be no visitation and no flowers by her request. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at St. Mary’s Polish Church, Fr. Lamey officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In memory of Bernice, one can do an act of kindness for a friend, relative, neighbor, stranger or someone in need.
Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary’s Polish Church Building Fund, Wesley Street.
