With sadness, we the family of Mildred G. Farrow announce her peaceful passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Thursday, April 4, 2019.
Born on January 22, 1929, Mildred was the eldest child of the late Harry and Sadie (O’Brien) Waidson.
Mil lived all of her life in Gardiner Mines and was a member of the former St. James Parish. She and her husband, John, were the first couple married in the newly completed church in 1950. The heart of our family, she was the proud and loving Mom to seven children and Grammie to ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In earlier years, Mom was active in her parish, Home and School, and the Gardiner Mines Community Hall. She belonged to several card clubs and enjoyed music and dancing with Dad. In her later years, she was a member and regular card player at the Gardiner Mines Seniors and Pensioners Hall and would never miss the Pensioners’ dances, enjoying the company of her friends.
A devoted wife and stay-at-home mom, she lovingly cared for her family and home. Mom enjoyed knitting, quilting, ice-skating, family gatherings and baking our favorite squares. A loyal Blue Jays fan, Grammie always enjoyed chatting about the latest game or trade.
Mildred is survived by children, Ruth Strang, Sheldon (Jean Anne), Pearl (Eric Boutilier), Aubrey (Cathy), Roy (Jann), Lori (Darrell Fudge); grandchildren, Devon, Schoel, Scott, Amanda, Sarah, Chris, Shaun, Lauren, Allison and Nick; great–grandchildren, Carver, Jemima, Carter, Cameron, Russell, Rachel, Nora, Hudson, Beau, and Gabrielle; her brother, Aubrey (Renie); her sister, Margie Pender (Joe), N.Y.; sister-in-law, Genevieve O’Brien.
Besides her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, John; infant daughter, Gail; brother, Joseph and his wife, Tissie; infant sister, Mabel; son-in-law, Jim Strang; infant great-granddaughter, Quinn.
Thank-you to the caring members of the Cape Breton County Homemakers, VON, EHS, and the doctors, nurses, and medical staff for their part in Mom’s care over the past eighteen months. Special thanks to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
We take comfort knowing Mom & Dad are reunited sharing in their eternal dance.
Visitation will take place on Monday, April 8th from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The Funeral Mass officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport followed by a reception at the Gardiner Mines Senior and Pensioners Hall. Interment in St. James Cemetery.
