Mary Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Bates

Lizzie Bates formally of Louisbourg died at the Cove Guest Home on April 4, 2019 at age 103.
Born at North Shore Gabarus on August 23, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Charlotte (Landry) Campbell.
Mom’s positive attitude and loving heart made her dear to all who knew her. She was a member of Stella Maris Parish and a charter member and past president of the CWL. Until 1975 she and her husband Tom operated the Shell Restaurant and Service Station.
She was predeceased by her husband, Tom; daughter, Rose Doyle; sons-in-law, Kevin MacDonald and Bill Mullins; great-granddaughter, Rebecca MacDonald; sisters, Margaret, Kay, Mary Emma and Theresa; brothers, Jimmy, Joe and Donald in infancy.
She is survived by her daughters, Pat Mullins, Pauline (Bill) MacDonald, Helen (Lloyd) Carter; son, Tom (Jackie) Bates, Earl (Judy) Doyle; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson, Logan.
A special thank you to the Cove staff, especially Angie and Kenny, for the care and attention shown to Mom during these past 10 years.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12, also at Stella Maris Church, Fr. Evo Dipierro officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
