Alma Cecily (nee Edwards) Carver

Alma Cecily (nee Edwards) Carver

Alma Cecily Carver (nee Edwards) left us on the morning of Saturday, April 6, 2019. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Ludlow Carver of 61 years and children Kenneth Carver (Beth); Sheila Duffy (Pat); Donna Carver-MacKenzie (Brian); Allan Carver (Kelly); Darlene Pound (David); and Elizabeth Carr (Jason); 13 Grandchildren (Whew, that’s a lot. Wait. There’s more) and 4 Great Grandchildren. Alma was pre-deceased by her parents Harry and Hazel (Smith) Edwards and siblings Robert, Reginald, Alice, and Ralph. Alma was born in Hampshire and spent her early years growing up on a beautiful farm. While attending Prince of Wales College, she met Ludlow at the Rendezvous Restaurant. He was smitten. “Who’s the quiet one?” he asked. A couple of years later, he announced he was moving to Toronto to look for work. The big city was appealing to Alma (maybe Lud has a little something to do with it). She quit her job and they both headed for The Big Smoke. Love must have tagged along for the ride, because soon after they were married. They came back to PEI to look after Ludlow’s mother, Jessie, who took sick. The Island never let them go again, because it keeps good people. They settled down and filled their house with kids. It was well known that if someone needed a place to stay, the doors at Alma and Lud’s were always open. Didn’t matter who, or for how long. There was always room. Leading up to every Sunday was preparation of the church bulletin. It was a great source of pride for Alma to have it ready for service without fail. Sometimes it drove her kids nuts (I know, because I’m writing this and I’m her kid). But she was not going to let down the minister or the congregation. Oh, and every Saturday was “getting my hair done” day. DO NOT try to reschedule that. Alma was soft spoken, pleasant and… what’s that word… oh yes, stubborn. When she made up her mind, it was made up and that’s it. End of story. We say a loving goodbye to Hazelbrook’s greatest and most beloved baby sitter. Alma will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet her. There will be a wake to celebrate Alma and her legacy at Belvedere Funeral Home on April 10, 2019 from 4-7 pm. A memorial service will be held at Belvedere Funeral Home on April 11, 2019 at 11 am. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hazelbrook Cemetery fund or to the Palliative Care Unit. www.belvederefh.com
