John Wallace Francis

John Wallace Francis passed away peacefully in Montreal Quebec on March 14, 2019, age 101. He leaves behind his loved companion of 52 years Gabrielle Larocque Daoust and his stepchildren, François, Marie, Monique and Robert, and many grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Lorne Francis (Roma, deceased) of Charlottetown, and sister Ethel MacEwen of Victoria BC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Elizabeth Williamson, Buff LePage, and Bernice MacLeod. He was born in Fortune Bridge PEI on Feb 3, 1918. He grew up in the family business of J.S. Francis and Sons Carriage and Sleigh Manufacturers. John was a veteran of WWII. After serving overseas, he was educated at Mount Allison University, McGill University, and UBC and became a professional engineer, working primarily in the pulp and paper industry in Quebec. He was an avid golfer and bridge player, teaching bridge to others at age 100. A gathering will take place on April 13, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home (307, Riverside, St-Lambert). Burial will take place at a later date in Bay Fortune United Church Cemetery.
