John J. 'Jack' Petite

It is with broken hearts; the family of the late John J. ‘Jack’ Petite announce his passing at home surrounded by his loving family.
A boilermaker by trade from 1955-1970 he was part of the Quebec local and played a major role in forming Local 73 International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. In 1970 he started working for the N.S. Department of Labour as Boiler Inspector, retiring in 2000. He continued to work as a consultant until the age of 74.
Dad loved to go fishing and enjoyed nothing more than the times he and mom spent at their bungalow in Little Narrows. He was the son of the late Jake and Clementine Petite.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean (Taylor); his children, Helen (Billy) Sudworth, Linda (John) Eveleigh, Billy (Clara Gray), Darlene (John) Matheson and Jaqueline (Gary) MacPherson. Poppy is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren all of which he adored especially his little buddy, Keith.
Also surviving are his sisters, Edna McNeil, Thelma (Rocky) Ford, Julie (Bernie) O’Donnell and Barbara (Gussie) Murphy and Sandra (David) Nicholson; brother, Keith (Elsie); sisters-in-law, Marge Petite, Yvonne Petite and Helen Taylor, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Art and Ronnie; sister, Ruth McNeil; brothers-in-law, Clyde, Jim and Peter; grandson in infancy Jack; nephews, Wayne and Greg Petite; niece, Jennifer.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 12 - 2 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). A private memorial service and burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetic Association or charity of one’s choice.
At this time, we would like to the extend our deep appreciation and thanks to Dad’s doctor and friend Dr. E. Ajuwon, staff of 2nd floor, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, Doctors and staff 4B, Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the emergency responders who came to our home.
