Edward Stewart Whitty

Edward Stewart Whitty

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Edward Stewart Whitty, 47, on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born on March 9, 1972 in Neil’s Harbour, he was the son of Gertrude Whitty and the late Godfrey Whitty.
Stewart spent his younger years in Ingonish before settling in North Sydney. He held many jobs over his lifetime beginning as a fisherman, fish plant worker in Neil’s Harbour and later as a cook’s assistant at Rollie’s Wharf, Canton restaurants and the Theatre Pub and Grill, all in North Sydney.
Stewart was a loyal Habs fan and enjoyed watching the games with his family, all wearing our jerseys and of course, playing cards for money. He loved his daily walks to mom’s and always stopped by Suzanne’s for his nip of wine.
Although Stewart was the only boy in the family and being raised with five sisters, he had two special cousins that he thought of as brothers, Sheldon and Johnny Whitty. He also had two special friends that he would love to have a drink with, Darren MacNeil and Thomas Haycox, and of course his furry friend, Aurora, who was always by his side.
Besides his mother Gertrude, he is survived by his three children, Ashton Hawley, Brittany and Kassandra Whitty, all of North Sydney; his five sisters, Jane (Byron) Redquest, Ingonish, Connie (Donnie) Carrigan, Pauline MacAulay, Lena Whitty (Lenny MacDonald), Suzanne Whitty, all of North Sydney; his three grandchildren, Maddison, Noah, Nevaeh, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Besides his father Godfrey, Stewart was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Jack and Bridget Whitty; maternal grandparents, Tom and Rachel Whitty; brother-in-law, John MacAulay and grand nephew, Zander.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre, Palliative Care and 4A IMCU of the Regional Hospital for the care given to Stewart.
Visitation for Stewart will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
A Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph Church North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice/Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
