Robert William " Bill" RECTOR

Robert William “Bill” Rector of Valley View Villa danced his way to heaven at the age of 93. He was the son of the late Robert and Ann Jean (Auld) Rector from Thorburn. Following his marriage to Nora E MacDonald he moved to Priestville, where he spent most of his adult life. He served in the Pictou Highlanders for two years. At the end of the war, he went to work at the MacBean Mine until it closed. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed these activities well into his 80’s. He played ball with the Men’s Walkerville Flyers in his younger years. He was a coached the Women’s Walkerville Flyerette’s ball team and Minor Hockey in Thorburn with his boys. He enjoyed watching hockey, and his Blue Jays, and playing darts. He was a member of the 55 Plus Club for many years. A devoted husband and father, he camped with his family for many years at various campgrounds around the Province, Mason’s Campground and Harbour Lights held a special place in his heart. He truly enjoyed “Family Days” when family and friends would arrive to spend the day. He truly loved Christmas; he liked nothing better than visiting all his children and grandchildren on Christmas morning, the earlier the better. All the gatherings before Christmas with family were always special to him. Dad is survived by his son-in-law Randy Mason, daughters: Lois Dunbar, Judy (Ivan) Richards, Karen (Kenny) Barkhouse, Debbie, Chrissie (Mike) Brandt and sons Bill (Bernadette) Rector and Ron Rector and sister-in-laws Mona Rector and Shirley Rector, brothers-in-law, Fred Wright, Lawrence Richard and Ronald (Lois) MacDonald, many nieces and nephews. He was a caring Papa to grandchildren: Jamie Mason (Trina), Shari (Rick) Easthope, Brad Richards (Lee), Timothy (Tameral) Richards, Joey (Lisa) Richard, Steve Dunbar (Kelly Jarvis), Kimberly Barkhouse (Ian MacLaren), Kris (Jes) Barkhouse, Joe (Cindy) Brandt, Amanda (Allan)Fraser and Allan Rector. He was a loving “Big Papa” to Shea, Cooper, Ainslie, Connor, Sharee, Austin, Anthony, Katie, Arwin, Lawson, Jake, Kale, Haydn, Jaxon, Haileigh and Madison. He is also survived by Grace Rector’s children Andy Goodwin (Sandy Malloy), Susan Gallant, Dave (Trina) Goodwin, Michael (Alisha) Goodwin, Peter (Lori) Goodwin, Laurel Goodwin (Bernie MacDonald), Rhona (Ken) Hubley and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Nora Edith (MacDonald) and his second wife Grace (Goodwin) Rector, infant son Bobby, daughter Marlene Mason, sisters Alexina Marshall, Mary MacAulay, Bessie Munroe, Dolina Rector and brothers, John, Jimmy, Norman, and Danny Rector, sisters- in- law Vivian Wright, Thelma Mancini, Eva Richard a stepdaughter (Melody Board) a stepson- in- law Craig Gallant and a brother-in-law Kenny MacDonald. He was the last surviving member of his family. His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Wednesday, May 29th from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on May 30th in the Chapel, officiated by Rev. Charles MacPherson. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be in the Priestville Cemetery. The family would like to say a special thank-you to the staff of Valley View Villa for their exceptional care. You were all very special to him. Family flowers only.
