Roger Strickland

Roger Strickland

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Strickland, 73, on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his loving spouse, Susan by his side.
Roger was born on February 19, 1946, in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late John and Muriel (Apblett) Strickland.
A graduate of Riverview Rural High School (Athlete of the Year, 1963), Roger worked for Nova Scotia Power for 28 years as a stationary engineer at the Lingan Generating Station.
He loved the water and he instilled that love in his children. He enjoyed any time he spent at the Baddeck Regatta or boating around Sydney Harbour. A friend to all, Roger was more than generous captaining anyone who wanted a day on the lake.
Roger will be sadly missed by his spouse of 24 years, Susan MacLeod; daughters, Susan (Chris) Young, Halifax and Beth, Ontario; son, Colin (Angela), Sydney. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Muggah; step-children, Jennifer (Adam) MacLeod, Ann Marie and Jason MacLennan; grandchildren; niece, Cathy; nephews, Roger and JD Muggah; and Pat Strickland, the mother of his children.
Roger was a passionate boater who enjoyed his summers cruising the beautiful Bras d’Or. Therefore, a celebration of Roger’s life will be held at the Dobson Yacht Club, a place near and dear to his heart, on Friday, June 7, 2019, from 2 - 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
