Etta Lavina (Vinie) Stanley, 92, of Clarenville, passed into eternal rest on June 14, 2019 at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital. Born January 27, 1924 in Burgoyne’s Cove, she is predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Maude (Ivany) Penney, sisters Belle and Beth, and brothers Alfred, Earle, Wandsworth and Willis.
With her husband Eric, Vinie spent most of her working life growing the family business, where over the years they sold everything from groceries to paint and wallpaper. In her retirement, she enjoyed tending her flower garden, travelling with friends, knitting and crocheting (especially for church sales) and beating all competition in a game of Scrabble.
Left with wonderful, loving memories are her husband of 70 years, Eric, daughter Cheryl (Frazer Russell), son Lorne, cherished grandchildren Leslie (Mario), Mark (Amanda), Dustin (Patty), Joel (Vilda) and Julia (Michael), her precious great grandchildren, Anna, Tristan and TJ, and her beloved sister, Rowena Humphries, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on Sunday, June 16, 2019. The funeral service was held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 2:00 PM from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment to follow at the Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. In lieu flowers, donations in Vinie’s memory may be made at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Clarenville or to the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital – Discovery Health Care Foundation.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Eastern Health, especially Nurse Belinda Brown and the staff of Dr. G. B. Cross Hospital, Dr. Paul Solomon, Dr. Harold Crewe, the Reverends Keith Denman and Sheila Sceviour, St. Mary’s ACW for their visits and for keeping her in their prayers and the wonderful care providers of Compassion and Comfort Home Care.
Thank you to all for your kind visits and well wishes. Vinie often said, “No matter what happens in life, be good to people.” She can rest assured that people have also been good to her.
