Alice Stevenson

Stevenson, Alice Jeanette – Murray Siding. It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Jeanette Stevenson announce her passing in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Alice is lovingly remembered by her children, Robert Stevenson (Colleen), Cheryl Stevenson-Gillis (John), and Elizabeth Letcher. She is also fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Brianna, Tristan, Nicholas, Graeme, and Josh. She was predeceased by her parents, Rosella (nee McCaul) and Francis Coates. Alice was born in Delaps Cove, Nova Scotia, but moved to Dartmouth with her parents at an early age. During high school, she took courses at the Nova Scotia College of Art. After graduation, she was employed with Imperial Oil Limited before marrying and starting a family. Her father was a Freemason and Alice followed in his footsteps by becoming a member of the associated Order of the Eastern Star. Later in life, Alice moved to Truro with her family. She attended Nova Scotia Community College and graduated as a Cook. She served as the head cook at the Nova Scotia Residential Center in Truro before eventually retiring. Alice attended the First Baptist Church in Truro and was a member of the Hope Chest Breast Cancer Survivors Group. In her spare time, she enjoyed needlepoint, tapestry, tole painting, and crypto quote puzzles. Our family wishes to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the 3D and Intensive Care units at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the compassion and care that they provided Alice in her final days. In accordance with Alice’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation was Wednesday, June 26 from 6 – 8 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, June 27 at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Pastor Ruth Tonn of First Baptist Church, Truro will officiate. Reception followed the service. Donations in memory of Alice can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
