In the presence of her loving family, we regret to announce the peaceful passing of Ida Gertrude Drover, age 81, from Hodges Cove, at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John’s, on September 4, 2009. Predeceased by parents, Nathaniel and Alice Smith; son Raymond, sister Belinda Smith and son-in-law Otto Abbott. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are her husband of 64 years, Walter Sr.; children Selina Brown (James), Mildred Bishop (John), Alonzo (Melva), Walter Jr. (Donna), Flora Abbott (John), Roy (Maxine), Avalon (Debbie), Gregory (Shawna) and Pam St. Croix (Paul); 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Rachel Drodge (Will), Gloria Blundon (George), Eva Russell (Patrick), Myra Bishop (Russell), Alice Avery (James); brothers Eliab, Roy, William (Frances) and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at St. Mary’s Anglican church, Hodges Cove from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Nelson Chatman, assisted by Rev. Morley Boutcher and Lay minister Jim Peddle, took place on Monday, September 7, 2009 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.
