It is with great sadness the we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother, William Witherall, 77, resident of Scotch Lake Road, Georges River, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on Dec. 10, 1931, he was a son of the late Henry and Rachel (Price) Witherall.
Bill worked for many years as an auto body repairman. He was an avid harness racing fan and was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Mary (MacNeil) Witherall; three daughters, Charlene Scott, Ontario, Denise (Robert) Cassidy, Florence, Lisa Confiant, Long Island; two sons, Ronald (Debra), Sydney Mines, Allan (Nichole), Georges River; six grandchildren, Shane, Brittany, Paul Christopher, Kiersten and John, whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are four sisters, Frances Turner, Mildred Inder, Muriel Robinson, Pauline MacKeigan; two brothers, Charles and Raymond Witherall, several nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by three brothers, George, Benjamin, infant brother, Freddie, four sisters, Olive, Edith, Beatrice, Ann and son-in-law, William T. Confiant.
No visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter MacLeod officiating. Burial to follow in Parish Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Joseph Church or to a charity of choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
