
Aage Skaarup
SKAARUP, AAGE C. - Aage C. Skaarup, 1923 – 2011, passed away peacefully at The Carleton Manor Nursing Home, Woodstock, NB on Friday, June 17, 2011. Aage was born in Broager, Demark on November 11, 1923, son of the late Frederick and Anne Skaarup. Aage is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice, sons, Harold, Dale, Chris and their families which include seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Aage was predeceased by his brothers, Frederick, Harold and Carl. Aage came to Canada in 1926 settled with his family in New Demark before moving to Charleston in 1938. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and later served with the Canadian Forces as a Warrant Officer, retiring after 23 years service in Canada and overseas. He retired to his farm in Charleston in 1974 where he continued to work until his recent bout of bone cancer. At the age of 70, he built his own airplane and learned to fly it, but let it go at the age of 85 because it was interfering with his skiing time at Crabbe Mountain. He was a life long musician, playing the violin and trumpet in dance bands and military bands all over Canada and Europe. He was a member of the Centreville Legion, where he played many “Last Post” for fallen comrades. He was on the Board of Directors of the Florenceville Co-op and a member of the Waterville Baptist Church.
Visitation was held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville on Sunday, June 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held at the Upper Waterville Baptist Church on Monday, June 20 at 2 PM. Interment will be in the Charleston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Carleton Manor Foundation, Upper River Valley Cancer Support group or the Kidney Foundation. The family would like to make a special mention of the superior care he received at the Hospital and the Carleton Manor.
