Doris Cosman

COSMAN, DORIS MARY - 1949 - 2011 - Doris Mary Cosman, Sussex, NB. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, Doris Mary Cosman, who at the age of 62 years went home to be with the Lord. She died peacefully at the Sussex Regional Hospital on Monday, June 27, 2011. Born in Moncton, NB, on August 19, 1949; Doris was the eldest child of the late J.W. (Bud) Cosman and the late Harriet (Miller) Cosman. After graduating from Moncton High School in 1966, Doris received her R.N. degree from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1971, as a Lieutenant where she remained for 3 years. She worked in many areas of nursing, including 10 years at Dorchester Penitentiary, before moving to Norton, NB in 1992 where she retired because of ill health. Doris had a love of gardening and had beautiful flowers and shrubs around her home where many people would stop and admire her work. She also had a great love of children and they were her passion. She volunteered her time for 5 years at the Sussex Christian School where she had lots of “hugs and hallelujahs for “her kids”. She loved to work on her computer where she self-taught herself to make personalized greeting cards and calendars of all kinds. She made them to sell, but as usual, she gave most of them as gifts. She was a very generous person with her talents and time. She had a keen wit and sense of humour and would bring laughter onto the lives of those she knew and met. She was a great source of encouragement, always willing to help in any way she could at her church and loved her church family. She will be sadly missed by all but they will be thrilled to know she can now fly! Doris is survived by three sisters, Beverly (Robert Turnbull) of Riverview, NB, Judy (Steve Wood) Beaverbank, NS, and by one brother Greg (Linda) of Moncton, NB, sister-in-law Wendy (Cosman) Morley of Moncton. She was predeceased by a brother James (Jim) in 1981, sister Louise Walters in 2010, and niece Amy Cosman in 2006. Her surviving nieces and nephews are Joshua, Sara, Colleen, Travis, Jennifer, Jeffery and James, and many great-nieces and nephew. She is also survived by her very best friends, Dave and Grace Armstrong. Doris was 2nd mom to their children, Jadon, Jon, Peter and Aaron. She was loved by her special “brats”, Perry and Laurie Milbury of Oshawa, ON and Mike and Joanne Brehaut of Sussex, NB.
As per Doris’s wishes cremation has taken place, there will be no viewing at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held from The Sussex Wesleyan Church, 280 St. George Street, Sussex, NB, on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2:00pm with a reception to follow. In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Sussex Christian School in The Sussex Wesleyan Church or the Canadian Diabetic Association. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530. The family invites you to sign an online book of condolences at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
