YOUNG: Deirdre Ann Young of Swift Current, SK died at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, SK on July 1, 2011 at the age of 74 years. A Memorial Service of Remembrance was held at the St. Stephen The Martyr Anglican Church, Swift Current, SK. on Thursday, July 7, 2011 with Reverend Duncan and Reverend Beverley McLean officiating. The eulogists were Meir Hockley and Margaret Patrick. The ushers were Blair Hockley and Robert Young. The St. Stephen's Church Choir were in attendance and the organist was Janet Neubauer. Deirdre is survived by her husband Ronald George Young; her children: Andy (Penny Lee) Beattie, Doug. (Rhonda) Beattie and Cathy Beattie; her grandchildren: Robbie & Michael Beattie, JD and Yale, Curtis (Jamie) Beattie, greatgrandchildren: Kylie Beattie, her half brothers: Caven & Paul Holden. step-children: Elizabeth Louise Young, Ronald Young (Lilly),Jeanette (Brett) Gellner, Robert Young; step-grandchildren: Jessica Young, Niki Gellner and Mackenzie Gellner. Deirdre was predeceased by her parents Mr. & Mrs. Charles Holden, a sister Stephanie Holden, a son Christopher and a grandson Ty Beattie; a step-granddaughter Kelly Young. Deirdre was born of Irish Lineage, in Kent, England, December 4, 1936. She attended School at Audenshaw, Manchester, England. She then attended the Wolverhampton Nursing School and graduated from that institution in 1959. In 1960 she came to Canada with her friend Meir Hockley. Deirdre took a course in obstetric training at the City Hospital in Saskatoon, then moved to Nurse at the Hospital in Turtleford, SK. She married Dave Beattie in 1963 and the couple resided in North Battleford, SK. where she also was employed as a Nurse. The couple moved frequently and Deirdre continued Nursing at Uranium City, Moose Jaw, Kerrobert and Swift Current. In her final years of employment she was a Nurse at the Young Medical Clinic. Deirdre was a member of the S.R.N.A., active in the Anglican Ladies Auxillary and the St. George's Society. Her special interests included gardening, camping and travelling, especially to Jamaica & Cuba. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
