Hilda Eva Jane (Goosney) Hodder
Truro and Deer Lake, NL, 1941-2009
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Hilda, on Saturday, Sept. 26, at home, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous and unfaltering battle with a brain tumor.
Born in Deer Lake, NL, on Nov. 13, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucy (Organ) Goosney.
The ninth of 15 children, Hilda spent her childhood in Deer Lake, until moving to Corner Brook where she began her career as an R.N.A., dedicating many years of devoted care. It was there, in 1962, where Hilda met the love of her life, Walter John Hodder, thus gracing him with 47 years of marriage. Together they built a life, and raised five children in Gander, NL. Following retirement they relocated to Truro where they embarked on the next chapter of life together.
She was a loving wife and cherished mother who adored spending time with her family. She always had a story to tell, a laugh to share and wonderful Newfoundland cooking for everyone to enjoy. “Nan†made the best pea soup and lemon meringue pie in the world. Her door was always open and there was always a place at her table.
She consistently remained positive expressing no fear during her battle. Her faith and strong belief in angels, provides us peace, knowing her Guardian Angel has carried her to heaven with our Lord.
She is predeceased by siblings David, Vine, Clifton and Gerald and survived by her loving husband Johnny, Truro, children, Richard Hodder, (Dawn), Mineville, NS, Bill Hodder, (Jeff) Mississauga, ON, Sherri Meeks, (Colin) Ottawa, ON, Joann King, (Jay) Texas and John Hodder, (Neil) Toronto, ON, 11 beautiful grandchildren, awaiting the arrival of her first great grandchild, three brothers and seven sisters, several nieces and nephews. No words can express the depth of our loss.
Many thanks to the V.O.N., Palliative Care nurses and her doctors for helping us through this difficult and sad time.
Visitation will be held in St. Michael's All Angels Church Hall, 21 Farm Road, Deer Lake, NL on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m., with memorial service in St. Michael's All Angels Church at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Anglican Cemetery, Farm Road.
