The death of Harvey Earl Goodwin, 68, of West Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Friday, July 29, 2011. Harvey was a son of the late Chesley Goodwin of Port Elgin and Florence (nee Coulson) Goodwin, currently of West Amherst.
He was a member of the Salvation Army and a past member of the Kinsmen Club. Harvey was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother and great-grandfather.
Harvey is survived by his mother, Florence of West Amherst; a sister, Edith (Jack) Taylor, of Fenwick; two daughters Kimberly Upshaw of Truro, Tammy Goodwin, of Amherst; two sons, Stephen (Sara) of Amherst, and Ricky (Virginia) of West Amherst; his good friend and former wife, Sylvia Goodwin, of Amherst; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, Harvey was predeceased by a son-in-law, Herbert Upshaw.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777) from where visitation will be held 7-9 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 2 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. The Salvation Army officers will be officiating. Following the service, burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
