AVONDALE – William Robert “Bill” MacLeod, 83, Avondale, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 4, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Avondale, he was a son of the late James Robert and Eva Mae (Arbuckle) MacLeod. He was a skilled woodsman and a certified carpenter. In earlier years, he was employed with Pepsi-Cola, Weston, Ont. Prior to retirement in 1993, he was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Westville. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Frances (Gosbee); son, Raymond (Irene), Avondale; daughters, Florence (Donald) Sutherland, Springville; Beverly Bourgeois, New Glasgow; Frances (Jerome) MacDonald, Bailey’s Brook; Shirley (Scott) McLeod, Durham; Lynda (David) Duggins, Avondale; Gloria Walsh (Ronnie), Trenton; daughter-in-law, Carol MacLeod, Oshawa, Ont.; sisters, Edith Sangster, Piedmont; Kaye Cogswell, Toronto, Ont.; Phyllis Anderson, Lower Barney’s River; Helen (Larry) Marr, Ottawa, Ont.; brothers, James, Toronto, Ont.; Colin (Muriel), Ontario; Hector, Halifax; Ronnie (Sylvia), Ontario; Neil (Elizabeth), Hopewell; Joe (Mannie), Ontario; Sandy, Regina, Sask.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son, Arthur; grandsons, twins Tyler and Kyle McLeod, Lance Duggins; sisters, Madeline MacDonald, Aveon MacKenzie, Isabel Heidi and Myrtle Carr.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday in the chapel with Rev. Ryan King officiating. Interment will be in Kenzieville Cemetery.
