Jeremiah Joseph (JJ) O’Connor – 1928 to 2011
The family of Jeremiah Joseph (JJ) O’Connor would like to announce a memorial mass and reception at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hope River, PEI on Monday August 15, 2011 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Church Cemetery.

Jerry passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday March 14, 2011 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his father John O’Connor and his mother Mary Reid. Jerry was the oldest of four brothers and at the age of thirty seven was tragically the only survivor; Lorne died at age 13, Verne died at age 21 and John died at age 33. It was Jerry’s wish to be buried with his brothers at St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Born in St. Ann’s, PEI on February 19th, 1928, Jerry lived in Regina for almost sixty years. Jerry’s career in public service began in the Air Force in 1951. In 1953 he moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, and was hired by the Saskatchewan Provincial Auditor as an Accounting Clerk. By 1959 he was an Auditor. In 1971 he obtained an Administrative Degree from the University of Saskatchewan. He worked for a total of 31 years until his early retirement in 1984 at the age of 55.

Jerry never regretted early retirement; he proceeded to acquire his Canadian Securities Commission Certificate, obtain a ham radio licence, and travel extensively in western Canada. Jerry was an ardent fan of politics – in both Saskatchewan and PEI – and followed the career of his cousin Marion Reid with much interest. He was also a devoted Saskatchewan Roughrider fan. Jerry had a strong interest in genealogy and corresponded with family members across the country regarding the family tree. He was a loyal member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Regina.

Jerry is survived by his nephews James, Victor and Michael, nieces Marlene, Sharon, Sheila and Linda, and their spouses and children. Jerry was a kind and caring man, and possessed a keen wit and lively sense of humour and he will be sorely missed.
