Peacefully in his sleep, with his family by his side, Ron passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011, in his 80th year.
Loving husband and best friend of Vicki (nee Gouthro). Cherished father of Debbie (Paul), Sharon (Steve), Kelly (Mike) and Stephanie (Joe). Adoring grandfather to Adam, Neal, Ryan, Christina, Brock, Rebecca, Kathleen, Brendon, Thomas and Alex. Ron was the 13th of 15 children of the loving, supportive family Stephen Jimmy MacDonald and Veronica Campbell.
He was born and raised in North Lake, P.E.I., and he attended St. Dunstan's. In Ontario he rose to become a supervisor at Stelco where he worked for 38 years. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight. For 15 years Ron was an elected trustee for the Hamilton-Wentworth Separate School Board including a period as vice chair. Ron served as president with Dundas Valley Non-Profit Housing. He also served as president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Dundas. He volunteered countless hours as president of the St. Augustine's Parish Council, as president of the Hamilton Housing Registry, and as president of Dundas Association of Churches. He drove children to visit estranged parents and cancer patients to doctors as a volunteer with the Catholic Children's Aid Society.
Please join his family to celebrate his life on Tuesday, August 16, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home (www.catteleatonandchambers.ca), 53 Main Street, Dundas. A funeral mass will take place at Corpus Christi Church, 1694 Upper James, Hamilton on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
