Emily Gillis of Northside East Bay, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at the age of 86 in her home she loved.
Emily ‘Biddy’ was born in Glace Bay, the daughter of Dr. Dan and Emma MacNeil.
She was a graduate of St. Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish, 1946 and lived extensively throughout the Maritimes, retiring to East Bay in 1976.
Biddy is survived by her son, Leo (Ava), Calgary, Alta.; her sister, Laura MacDonald, Ottawa; her two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Neil and brothers, Dr. J.O. MacNeil and Hector MacNeil, Glace Bay.
Funeral mass for Emily Gillis will be celebrated Monday, 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay, with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery at a later date.
