Murdena Carmichael, 86 of St. Ann’s, Victoria County, died Sept. 10, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a short illness.
Born in 1925 at North River Bridge, she was the only daughter of the late Dan Angus and Sadie Mae (Briggett) Kerr.
During her life, she was a full time wife, mother, school teacher, Victoria County councillor, Baddeck Home & School and Victoria County Memorial Hospital board member.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Angus John ‘A.J.” Carmichael and her children, Darrell (Sandi), Port Williams, Harold ‘Hal’, West LaHave, Mary Lynn (Eric Keys), Sydney, Ron, Yukon, Angus John, Jr. ‘Jay’, Toronto, Shelley (Doug Neilson), Charlottetown and Todd, Baddeck; grandchildren, Martha (Matthew Kutcher), Hannah, Raegan (Jon Heidt), Mathew (Brenda Pacheco Gonzalez), Daniel (Samantha Carey), Anna-Cate and great-granddaughter, Daniela. She is also survived by a brother, John (Betty), Coxheath, plus a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Peter and Alexander and a nephew, Merrill.
As per Murdena’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will take place at Goose Cove Cemetery, St. Ann’s.
The family would like to thank the staff of IMCU and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and kindness.
As Murdena was an avid reader, donations in her memory to any literacy charity or the Baddeck Library would be appreciated.
