Annie Florence (MacNeil) Fitzsimmons, 74, of Halifax, formerly of Sydney, passed away Sept. 13, 2011 at the QE II Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Murdock and Catherine (Matheson) MacNeil.
Anne worked as a nurse at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney and St. Michael's in Toronto. She volunteered over the years for the Liberals and NDP and various other charities. She was always active until recently when her health failed. She enjoyed reading true crime stories and watching a good movie.
Anne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Keith Higgins, Stillwater Lake; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, George; son, Thomas; brothers, Joey, Nashie, Harvey; sisters, Mary, Agnes, Theresa, Jessie, Josie and Peggy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, where the family will receive visitors on Saturday, Sept. 17 beginning at 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment to take place at a later date in Cape Breton.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
