The death of George Burgess Frances Newcombe, 77, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on September 19, 2011. George was born in Nappan, NS and was a son of the late George and Blanche (Smith) Newcombe.
George had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for twenty-seven years, and retired as Master Warrant Officer. He had been past president of the R.C.A.F. #105 Cumberland Wing and former office manager for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10. He was an avid gardener, his home on Lorne Crescent having been featured in a local yard tour and newspaper.
George will be sadly missed by his wife, Christella (Sprague); two daughters, Natalie Newcombe, Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, PQ, Tanja (Keith) MacDonald, Amherst; five sons, George "Rick", Hamilton, ON, Tony (Lillian), Burlington, ON, Terry (Diane), Ontario, Lawrence, Ottawa, ON, and Sean, Amherst; a step daughter, Patrica Yates, Amherst; three sisters, Louise (Burton) Ripley, Port Howe, Charlotte (Aubrey) Boss, Tidnish, Beverly (Norman) MacDonald, Amherst; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Carl and Bob.
George's arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777). Honoring his wishes, the remains have been cremated. There is to be no visitation or funeral service.
