Christene O’Brien, 88, of North Grant Park, Antigonish Co., and formerly of South Bar, Sydney, died on Sept. 26, 2011, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in River Denys, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Ignatius and Margaret Sarah (MacDonnell) MacLeod.
Christene was a member of St. Ninian’s Parish, Antigonish.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia ‘Patsy’ O’Brien, Antigonish, Theresa (Benny) Smeenk, Antigonish, and Irene O’Brien, Halifax; sons, John (Christine), Glendale, Joseph (Della), Sydney, Gerard, Howie Centre, Lawrence (Joyce), Antigonish, and Blaise (Brenda), Grand Mira South; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Vincent Nash O’Brien; son Brian J.; daughters, Margaret Annette Brigley and Mary Florence MacGillivary, and sister-in-law, May Chisholm.
Visitation will be Thursday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral. Funeral Mass will be held Friday in St. Ninian’s Cathedral at 1 p.m., with Reverend Tom MacNeil presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
