Janet Hansen

HANSEN, JANET - Janet Elizabeth Hansen, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2011 in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. A lifelong resident of Lunenburg, she was born on June 13, 1920. Janet was the daughter of the late Roger and Phoebe (Silver) Conrad and the wife of the late Captain Edward Hansen. Janet is survived by step-son, David (Selina) Hansen, grand-daughters, Beth (Sheldon) Gillis, Jyll (Sean) Van Leeuwen, great-grand daughter, Ella Gillis, niece, Martha (Laurie) Comeau, step-nephew, Clyde Taylor (Yvonne Fennelly), great- niece, Sarah (Gerritt) Kruidhof and her children Isabelle and Tristan, great- nephew, Corey (Shannon Sharhan) Comeau, step-nephew, Ray Lohnes, step-niece, Rita Haines and a number of nieces and nephews in Norway. Janet was predeceased by her husband, Edward, sister, Erna (William) Taylor, and brother, Arlington (Olive) Conrad. Janet will be remembered as an integral part of a vibrant Lunenburg business community where she spent 41 years in the employment of Kinley’s Drug Store. She was a faithful member of her church, Zion Lutheran, and participated on Parish Council and the Ladies Fellowship Committee. She was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 23, Ladies Auxiliary. Janet was passionate about her family and this was evident, in her early years, as she cared for her parents in their home. She was always eager to get a phone call or a visit from friends and relatives, especially after the arrival of “little ones” who she cherished. Janet enjoyed travelling and made many trips to Norway with her husband. She kept up an active exchange with family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held Tuesday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Vivian S. Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, following the service. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice. Thank-you to the staff of Mahone Nursing Home, the palliative care unit, Rev Vivian Roberts and all friends and relatives that provided support.
