It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mamie Joe on Oct. 15, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born May 3, 1918, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Joy) Fogarty.
Mamie was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, KOC, St. Theresa’s Choir, CWL (shows and concerts), the Pensioners Club, and was an active member of the Liberal Party. Some of the things Mamie enjoyed were road trips with the VAN crowd, playing cards with anyone and singing, but her most favourite thing of all was cooking spaghetti dinners for all of her children and grandchildren. Mamie will be remembered for the kindness that she showed to all.
She is survived by her children, Joe (Lorraine), Newfoundland, Dennis (Kathleen) and Mary Louise (Sandy) Greig, both of Sydney, Sheila (Kenny Leverman) MacNeil, Halifax, Margaret Ann (Rod) Probert, Halifax; grandchildren, Patricia, Margaret, Daniel, Joanne, Jennifer, Bhreagh, Heather, Andrew, Maia, Katie and Matthew; newest member of Mamie’s family and first great-granddaughter, Bridgette. Mamie is also survived by her sister, Margie Currie, Toronto; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mamie was predeceased by her husband, Joe in 1984, sisters, Genevieve, Aggie, Etta and Nora, brothers, Patrick, Dick and Breezer.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 in St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
