Leona Dorothy (Nonie) Comeau, 87, of Digby, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Oct. 20, 2011 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in East Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Evelyn and Jerry Surette. Nonie enjoyed a busy active life and lived every day to the fullest. She was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Digby, volunteered with many organizations in her community including Digby Hospital Auxiliary (longest serving member), Catholic Women’s League, Digby area Food Bank, and Tideview Terrace. Nonie was a member of the Digby Red Hats. She enjoyed swimming, bowling and playing cards with her friends; and most of all she enjoyed the family gatherings that she could organize like magic. Nonie was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Van Tassel; second husband, Victor Comeau, and siblings, Harold Surette, Ritchie Surette and Gladys Dearth. She will be sadly and deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and friends. Nonie is survived by her stepson, Carl (Barbara); sons, Jerry (Sharon) Van Tassel, Mark, Brian (Angela); daughters, Anne (Ron) Pothier and Judy (Dan) Koncz. She is also survived by grandchildren, Marion (Terry) Weatherbee, Andrew Comeau, Taylor, Alec, Faith and Lori Comeau, Amy, Allison and Megan Pothier, Nicki and Ariel Koncz; foster grandchildren, Priscilla Willington, Stephanie Beaulne and their children, step-grandchildren, Donna (Judy), Lynn (Steve) and their children and grandchildren, great-grandchildren Riley and Corwin Weatherbee. Nonie is survived by sisters, Norma Comeau and Alice Amero; sister-in-law, Cecelia Surette; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass Oct. 25 in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Digby, Father Keith Billard officiating. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
