It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Henry Head on Nov. 8, 2011, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late William and Lousia (Sopher) Head.
Henry was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel in New Waterford.
He was a coal miner for 40 years; finishing his time as a blacksmith at central shop.
Henry was an avid boat builder, fisherman and farmer. He was happiest when trout fishing and on his boat or tractor. He will be missed most for his stories.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Marie (Kanne); daughters, Anne (Garland), Ontario, Henrietta (Dan), New Waterford, Lesa (John), Glace Bay; sons, Fred, New Waterford, Earl (Linda), Sydney, Wayne (Sheri), Annapolis Valley, Paul, Lawrencetown, Richard, at home, Matthew (Trena), Reserve; brother, John, New Waterford; sister, Maude, Sydney; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Besides his parents, Henry was predeceased by a son, Gerald, in infancy, brothers, Ralph, Dan and Art, sisters, Blanche, Lillian and Edith.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov.11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will take place Saturday, Nov.12 at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Citadel, New Waterford, with Lts. Josh and Joyce Downer officiating. A luncheon will be held in the Salvation Army hall with burial to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, New Waterford, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
