CRAIG, EILEEN ALICE - 1925-2011 - Eileen Alice Craig of Woodstock, NB passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital on November 10 2011. Eileen was born in Wood Green, North London, England the only daughter of Walter and Kitty Simpson. Eileen worked in the War Office in London during the second world war. During this time she met Frederick Hazen Craig. They were married in London in 1945. Hazen returned to Canada due to serious illness and Eileen came to Canada to join him later that same year. A family friend remarked, upon her death, that Hazen has his War Bride back for Remembrance Day. Eileen is survived by her daughter Maureen Craig McIntosh (Doug), grandson Shawn McIntosh (Olga) and great grandchildren Nicholas, Peter, and Ansley; her son Colin Craig (Jill) and granddaughter Erica de Passille (Bruno), great granddaughter Ariane, grandson Matthew Craig; son Barry Craig (Sara) and grandson Patrick Craig, great grandson Graydon, granddaughters Mary Craig, and Catherine Craig; Thelma Craig ,sister-in-law. Eileen is predeceased by her husband Frederick Hazen Craig (2009) and her son Neil Craig (1959). Eileen was a wonderful mother and wife. She was a member of St Luke’s Church Guild and an active volunteer throughout her life with the Anglican Church. Eileen and her husband worked together for over 25 yrs with the Old Home Week Commission and were well known for the organization of the annual hobby show. Eileen was famous for her knitting ability. All family and many friends have beautiful sweaters knit by Eileen. The last sweater she knit was completed for her great granddaughter Ariane. Eileen was also famous for her knitting of many dolls and figures and in recent years was a master of creating hand knit nativity sets. She knit professionally for Cottage Craft of St. Andrew’s for over 50 years. Being a British War Bride and an only child raised by her Uncle and Aunt, Eileen understood tough times. Her legacy has been clearly etched into the minds of her children. Her simple message in times of trouble would simply be “just get on with things”. Eileen will be missed by all.
Funeral services to be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Luke’s Anglican Church with The Rev. Robyn Cuming officiating. A reception will follow at the Parish Hall. The interment will be held at Christ Church Cemetery , Lower Woodstock N. B. at 4:30 p.m. No visitation or viewing at the funeral home.
