KNIGHT, Dr. Art – It is with profound sadness that the family of Dr. Art Knight announces his death on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the age of 73. Art is survived by his wife, Ineke; children: Kathy, David (Deanna), Barb (Darren) Frederickson, Susan (John Boyle), Jennifer (David) Deppeler, Rob (Carrie), Mark (Betty Pipko), and Marieke; 16 grandchildren, as well as sisters: Kathleen (Lynch), Dorothy (Bussey) and brother Allan of St. John’s, NL. He was predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis, as well as his parents, Herbert and Dorothy. Art was born and raised in St. John’s, graduating from Memorial University with a Master’s Degree. He continued his education at the University of Alberta, where he received his Ph.D. He went to the University of Saskatchewan in 1964 where he was a Professor of Chemistry, Department Head, Dean of the College of Arts & Science, and Associate Vice-President (Academic). In 1993 he joined SIAST as President, where he remained until his retirement in 2003. Through the years Art served his community as, President of the Saskatoon Rotary Club, founding member of Probus, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic School Board, member of the Knights of Columbus, and as a volunteer with his church and community association. His passion in retirement was to work as the Chair of the Board of the Mendel Art Gallery and toward the creation of the new Art Gallery of Saskatoon. Art was laid to rest on November 5th from Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Parish in Saskatoon.
