Dr. Gordon Hutchings
Date de décès : 10 novembre 2011
It is with deep sorrow that the Hutchings family announces the passing of the patriarch of their family, Dr. Gordon Hutchings on Thursday, November 10th, 2011. Death due to illness. Throughout the various stages throughout his life, Gordon was many things to many people: husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, mentor, icon. He left a mark on most people he met and even “we are told” on some he didn’t.
Beloved husband of Carmel Flynn-Hutchings and adored father of Michelle Hutchings-Jiwa (Dr. Al Jiwa), Mary Andrea Hutchings and Gordon Flynn-Hutchings. Precious grandfather to grandsons, Shakil and Rafik Jiwa. Gordon spent his happy childhood in Whitbourne, NL. The son of Mary and George Hutchings, brother of Dr. Reg Hutchings (Gillian) in PEI and sister Sylvia Cumby (Reg) in NL. Graduated from medical school Memorial University in NL in 1977. Worked at hospitals in Buchans and Grand Falls, NL. Then the adventurous Doc. started to build everlasting memories for his family; three years in Saudia Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, working in Arab hospitals, with vacations in London, Paris, Cyprus, Greece, etc. Back to Canada, working in the French community of Kapuskasing in Northern Ontario. In 1993 Dr. Gordon was offered a job, he couldn't refuse. This would be an educational experience for his family that money couldn't buy; a job as a Diplomat with the Canadian Embassy in Hong Kong and vacations in the Far East. Although this was enjoyable, Gordon missed patient contact; which was his second love. He came to Trenton, Ontario in the Fall of 1997. He loved the adrenaline rush of working in Emergency at the Trenton Hospital. He had a very busy Family Practice; his favourite days were visiting his senior patients at various nursing homes. He loved his patients and knew he was beloved by them. Gordon never planned to retire, his joy of working was well known to his colleagues. His love of life was well known to his friends. He loved to cook, read non-fiction and play golf. He lived life as though he would die early and thus fate was just that. According to his wishes, this gentle soul, will have his body cremated. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the JOHN R. BUSH FUNERAL HOME, 80 Highland Avenue, Belleville (613-968-5588) on Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. A Private Irish Wake will be held at a later date to be announced. Donations to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Fund would be appreciated. On-line condolences at www.rushnellfamilyservices.com.
"Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day.
Do it! I say.
Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows"
