Noella Lemire

On October 22, 2011, at the age of 68 years, Noëlla Alfredine Lemire of Val Marie, SK, passed away peacefully at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge in Swift Current, SK with her loving family by her side. Noëlla was born on December 24, 1942, in Gravelbourg, SK the 7th child of Joseph and Rose (nee Voyer) Morin. Noëlla attended grades 1 through 12 in Val Marie, and at the age of seventeen, she received a bursary to attend Normal School. In 1961, she began her teaching career teaching for the Gravelbourg School Division and in 1963 she accepted a teaching position at the Val Marie School in the Shaunavon School Division where she taught for 31 years, until she retired in 1995. Noëlla married Maurice Lemire on August 17, 1963 in Ferland, SK and together had three children. They resided in Val Marie district, where they spent many hours transforming their yard into a quiet and peaceful place to enjoy the many spruce trees, fruit trees, an abundance of flowers and a large garden. Noëlla took great pride in seeing her children graduate from high school and university. She treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved listening to music, dancing, crocheting, folk painting, making homemade bread, cinnamon buns and fudge. She enjoyed camping trips to Cypress Hills and ski trips to the mountains, where she learned to ski at the age of 44. Of her many accomplishments, Noëlla’s family was most proud of her receiving her Bachelor of Education, from the University of Regina on January 2, 1986. She was a member of the parish council and was an active member in the community. Above all, Noëlla loved her family and was very proud of them and will be greatly missed. “Je vous aime toujours et maintenant je retrouve dans l’autre vie le sourire des mamans qui est si joli.” She is survived by her loving husband Maurice; son Maurice Jr. (Carol); daughter Roxanne (Jay) Price; grandchildren Nicole Lemire, Luc Lemire, Colter Lemire, Taylor Price, Jason Price; brothers Fernand Morin, Jean-Louis Morin, Léopold Morin; sisters Juliette Chabot, Alice Lemire, Madeleine St. Jacques, Geneviève Hannah, Marguerite Zerr. Noëlla is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Rose Morin; infant son, Ronald; sisters Lucille Fortin, Marie Schmunk and brother Joe Morin. Memorial donations in memory of Noëlla may be made to the “Val Marie Heritage Culture and Youth Committee” Elevator Restoration Project. Prayers were held on Friday, October 28, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. with Theresa Laturnus presiding and Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., both at Nativity Roman Catholic Church, Val Marie, SK, with Father Juanito Vargas celebrant. Cross bearer was Alain Chabot. Readers were Madeleine Zerr and Robert Wheeler. Intentions were shared by Corinne Zerr. Offertory gifts presented by Lionel and Alice Lemire, Adeline and Roch St. Jacques. Music by niece Sylvie Masich. Honorary pallbearers were Noella Park, Elaine Belza, Marg Duquette, Aline Gauthier, Palma Miller, Joy LeBel. Active pallbearers were Nicole Lemire, Luc Lemire, Colter Lemire, Taylor Price, Jason Price and Nicole Morin. Interment took place at the Val Marie Community Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Noella to the “Val Marie Heritage Culture Youth Committee” Elevator Restoration Project, Box 171, Val Marie, SK S0N 2T0, were greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia & Gravelbourg.
