GEORGE ALEC RIMMER
July 17, 1937 – November 1, 2009
It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of George Alec Rimmer, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on November 1, 2009, in Rosthern, Saskatchewan after a long and valiant fight with many serious health conditions. George is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara, of 51 years, who's love, strength, and determination kept our Dad with us for as long as was possible; his children, Paul (Patty), Red Deer, AB, Mark (Rhonda), Dalmeny, Simon (Cindy), Beaumont, AB, Janet (Tim) Funk, Lumsden, Sarah (Kevin) Green, Sylvan Lake, AB, Louise (Patrick) Hassler, Prince Albert; his grandchildren, Holly, Stacey, Christopher, Owen, Nigel, Ashley, Jerad, Graham, Kaylee, Gillian, Randi, Kelsey, Sidney, Aiden; his step grandchildren, Christina, Audrey; great granddaughter, Heidi; step great granddaughter, Ava; and his siblings in England, Raymond, Terry, Keith, Barbara. His last days were gratefully shared with his brother, Raymond, who flew to Canada to be with dad and provide support to us all. George loved his family very deeply and we were never more aware of that than in his last days. George immigrated to Prince Albert, in January, 1967 his family to follow in April, 1967. He was a carpenter by trade and his love of carpentry he proudly shared with his boys. Dad had a very strong work ethic and this he instilled in all his children. “A true measure of a man is what he leaves behind” and what dad left behind is an incredible legacy. We would like to thank Dr. Sader and the outstanding staff at the Rosthern Hospital for all that they did throughout dad's illness and especially for the comfort they brought to him and his family in his last days. Thank you also to all those unknown people who unselfishly donate their blood. Your generous contributions allowed our dad to be with us for as long as was possible. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, the Rosthern Hospital Foundation, and/or donate a pint of blood to the Canadian Blood Services in your area. The Funeral will be held November 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., Rosthern Alliance Church, 1714 - 4th Ave, Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Interment will take place at Rosthern Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern (232-5245).
