Margaret Fowlie

FOWLIE, MARGARET ELAINE - Margaret Elaine Fowlie, Dartmouth, N.S. passed away peacefully on November 22, 2011 in Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth. Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on June 25, 1920, Margaret was the daughter of the late Murdock and Elizabeth MacLennan. Margaret is survived by her sons Dr. Frank Fowlie (Lois), Moncton, N.B. and David Fowlie (Pauline), Dartmouth, N.S. Margaret was a caring and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren Shawn, Michael, Mark and Jessica. She is also survived by her sister Frances Weeks, Charlottetown, P.E.I. and sister in law Annette MacLennan, Madison, Mississippi. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard Fowlie; brothers John, Edison, Ross and sisters Marion Jardine, Adele Garrard, Annie Ford and Alice Madsen. Margaret was fond of her many nieces and nephews always maintaining close personal contact with them. Margaret had a strong loving bond with her parents and siblings. She was proud of her Island roots and enjoyed returning for vacations and family occasions. Margaret had an optimistic outlook on life, enjoyed meeting new people and was devoted to her family. After graduating from Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, Margaret worked for Taxation Canada in Ottawa during the war years. After the war, Margaret returned to the Maritimes and settled in Dartmouth where she met her husband Howard and started family life.
Throughout Margaret’s life, she had a keen interest in her children’s activities and was a strong supporter of their pursuits whether they were in education, sports or other endeavours. Margaret was an avid gardener, enjoyed collecting antiques and playing bridge, especially in later years. Margaret looked forward to spending time in Florida with her brothers and sisters during the winter months.
In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A family only funeral service will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Rev. P.A. McDonald officiating. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Terrace for their wonderful care and compassion Margaret received as a long term resident. If so desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
