LYON’S BROOK – It is with great sorrow, but thanksgiving for her presence among us, that the family of Esther Beck announce her passing at home on Thursday, November 24, 2011.
Born in Central Carriboo, Pictou County on September 17, 1931, she was the youngest child of the late Harry Archibald and Laura Belle (Lowden) Barnard.
Esther moved to Lyons Brook when married to Alden Gerald Beck in 1956, where they have resided. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, a past matron of the former Victory Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and member of the Westville Chapter #24.
Surviving besides her husband, Alden; are brother, Frank (Donna) Barnard, Dundas, ON; sister, Elizabeth (Jack) Gammon, Lyons Brook; nephews, Russell Gammon, Fergus, ON; Douglas (Isabelle) Gammon, Three Brooks; Gary (Sherri) Gammon, Edmonton, AB; and niece Gayle Gammon, Lyon’s Brook; nephew, Ian (Shana) Barnard, Troy, ON and niece, Peggy Barnard (Michael Haber), Stoney Creek, ON; several great-nieces and nephews and a great-great-nephew; sister-in-law, Jennie Barnard, Pictou; cousins, Albert Henderson, Edmonton, AB and Margaret Schmitt, Toney River.
Esther was predeceased by brother, David Lowden Barnard and niece, Janice Gammon; a brother and sister in infancy.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take place 11 a.m. Monday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Iona MacLean officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only please. Donations in Esther's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Hall Fund or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
