Norman Duncan Oldford passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the age of 83.
Normie was predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine (Robinson) in 2007. Normie was a member of Newsom United Church, Glace Bay, where he served as an Elder and on many church committees.
Born in Glace Bay, Norman was the son of the late William and Gertie (Hart) Oldford.
Normie is survived by his daughter, Norma (Tom) Warner, Tanglewood, N.S. and by sons, Bill (Sharon) Fredericton, N.B., Charles (Clare) Point Edward, N.S., David (Florence) Russell, Ont. and Paul (Shauna) Glace Bay, N.S., as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn Normie are his sisters, Edna MacPherson, Eileen MacPherson, Anne (Eta) Matheson, Muriel Duffett and Ada Fudge; sisters-in-law, Grace Oldford and Barbara Oldford and brother-in-law, James Robinson.
Besides his parents, Normie was predeceased by his sisters, Beulah Cavers, Claudine Almon and his brothers, Lesley Oldford, Albert Oldford and Joseph Oldford.
Dad started his working career at Turners Transport and then was long time employee of CN both in Glace Bay and Sydney. Dad was a man with many interests, including hunting, woodworking, history and music. Dad loved his cottage in Loch Lomond where he spent happy hours gardening and entertaining his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Normie will be held on Monday, Nov. 28 at Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Newsom United Church, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at 1 p.m.
